Black Beetle Health Resources
From launching the latest season of our podcast, to spreading awareness at healthcare events, we've been up to a lot this Pride!

As ever, it's been a busy time for us at Black Beetle Health!
Before we get into what's been happening this month, we wanted to recognise and reaffirm that we're here because of all our LGBTQ+ Black and POC siblings who have paved the way.
Pride, now and forever, is a protest. We are celebrating for everyone in our community, including those that can't. Everything we do is for our you and any LGBTQ+ communities of colour who need healthcare support.
This is how we've been continuing to advocate for LGBTQ+ BPoC and promote health, wellbeing and equality.
Spreading awareness of our work at events
We were on the road again this month, travelling to events across the country.
Kay, who joined us in May, spent time at Scotland's Trans Conference before joining our new volunteer, Jorge, at Wythenshawe Pride.
Eshe - one of our new team members announced in Pride - took our work to this years' British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) Conference,
with amazing feedback from their presentation.
Publishing issue 3 of our magazine
To celebrate Pride, we published the latest issue of our magazine, The Beetle Feed.
Inside this issue:
- Henock Solomon writes about history of clothing in Ethiopia and gender-neutral garments.
- Poetry from Nash Sithole
- Multidisciplinary artist, Sadé Mica, lets us in on their working practice and how they find making binders therapeutic
Each edition dives into the key areas of healthcare we work in - sexual health, mental health, chronic illness and reproductive health for LGBTQ+ BPoC.
In case you've missed them,
catch up on the past issues of the mag and let us know what you think!
If you'd like a teaser, read our interview with the kinksters at Quench who give us the lowdown on consent, community and tips on what to wear to your first play party.

Launching season 2 of our podcast
The Black Beetle Health Podcast is back!
Elliss Lewin-Turner returns to host season 2, with a line-up of amazing LGBTQ+ guests including House of Rainbow founder Jide Macaulay, movement artist David Kam, medic in the making, Georgie Webster and more.
Collaboration with the University of Manchester
Our team at @DatingAppRes just published a report from the collaboration we did with @HealthBeetle about how academics and charity can work together! @uomsoss @BiomedSelfSoc https://t.co/sVZOOAdMdP
— Jaime Garcia-Iglesias (@JGarciaIglesias) June 27, 2023
We've been working with the University of Manchester on a project that's part of their Community Partnership Fund (CPF).
And the results of the work are here!
Introducing their report,
Collaboration for Change: Exploring Effective Collaboration between Academics and Community Organisations.
CPF was aimed at supporting academics and community partners in North West England to co-develop a project that aligned with one of the four social responsibility goals of the Uni:
- Social inclusion
- Better health
- Cultural engagement
- Environmental sustainability
We're so excited to see this out in the world. Academics reading, this one's for you.
Celebrating LGBTQ+ BPoC with House of Spice
House of Spice made history in Manchester, organising a march and parade in Canal Street/the Village to fight against racism in the city. And we were right there alongside them!
As a supporting partner of the event, it was an honour to join their parade and show up for LGBTQ+ Black and People of Colour. On the day, white folks also took part - and a reminder how allies can support us.
This is only the beginning of much needed change - and we're proud to be part of it.
Welcoming new faces to the Black Beetle Health team
This month we welcomed new people to the team!
- Eshe, who will be overseeing our Reproductive Health and Wellbeing project (and presented at BASHH this year)
- Jorge, one of our new wonderful volunteers, who joined Kay Kasese at Wythenshawe Pride - scroll up for the pic
