Calvin Stovell (he/him)

Trustee

Calvin, a native of Bermuda, has dedicated his career to promoting health and mental wellness within marginalised communities.

Since relocating to the UK, Calvin has worked as a support worker, health advisor, and sexual violence advocate, gaining invaluable insights into the ways society impacts the most vulnerable and marginalised populations within the healthcare and justice systems. Calvin's passion for intersectionality is fuelled by his own identity as a Black, gay male with learning difficulties.

Drawing on his own experiences of both privilege and oppression, Calvin strives to create a more just and equitable society. His work in health and social care is a testament to his commitment to empowering and advocating for those who have been historically underserved and overlooked.

Talycia Nayee (she/her)

Secretary Trustee

Talycia is a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Consultant who has worked to champion the needs of people of colour and the LGBTQ+ community.

She has worked as a trainer and consultant for LGBTQ+ charities and nonprofits to raise awareness on our unique and intersectional needs.

Talycia has lived experience navigating society with ADHD and uses this to support spaces to be more neurodiverse friendly. A keen volunteer, she’s been volunteering since the age of 14 and hasn’t stopped since!

Being able to volunteer her experience to support the development of Black Beetle health feels exciting; she is consistently inspired and motivated by the spirit of our community.

Isaiah Brodrick (they/them)

Trustee

Isaiah is a mental health researcher with a background in youth worker and mental health support outside of hospital settings.

Their personal beliefs have always blended into their professional life, with their first job being a mentor on a summer youth program at 16 years old.

Since then, many of Isaiah’s roles have been grounded in community and supporting marginalised people, from being a research assistant on a study into victims of domestic violence in Jamaica and Uganda, a youth worker for a youth organisation supporting trans young people, and to present day; a research assistant on a study seeking to improve the experiences of Black men detained under the UK’s Mental Health Act.

As someone who is able-bodied and trans-misogyny exempt, constantly seeking to understand how Blackness and transness exist beyond their own experience is something Isaiah is passionately committed to.

In their free time Isaiah enjoys reading, pottery, and tending to their many houseplants.

An aspiration of theirs is to open a pottery studio that provides Black communities free access to all things pottery and ceramics.
